Eugene Sander

Purpose: This award salutes The University of Arizona faculty members who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in garnering philanthropic resources to benefit University programs.

The selection committee shall be comprised of the presidents of the UA and The University of Arizona Foundation, the Provost and the Senior Vice President of Development and University Campaigns, or their respective designees.

History: Endowed by the Foundation Board in the fall of 2008, this annual award honors the singular accomplishments of Eugene G. Sander. His leadership, vision and unwavering commitment to fundraising and donor relations led the Board to enthusiastically name this award in his honor.

Since joining the UA in 1987, Dr. Sander has had a tremendous impact on the institution as a faculty member and administrator. He founded the Deans’ + Development Committee to encourage active involvement in major gift fundraising at the college and unit levels, and has chaired the group for extended periods at several pivotal times in UA’s philanthropic evolution.

During his tenure as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, he has taken an active role in raising tens of millions of dollars from private sources. He is respected and admired by colleagues and has set a course for University development unparalleled in the state.
